“2012: Biography of a Time Traveler –
The Journey of Jose Arguelles”
by Stephanie South:
“After his meeting with Dane Rudhyar (in 1973), Jose received many flashes of insight that became the base foundation of his planetary vision. These insights found their way into (his book) The Transformative Vision. First, he saw how the geometrical structure of the polar axis and the two hemispheres of the Earth symbolize the polarity of man and the two hemispheres of the brain. Next, he saw the vision of the whole Earth as one interconnected system – a spherical living mandala with intrinsic geometrical structures. He experienced the Earth as a holographic representation of cosmic order, the ultimate manifestation of the cosmic whole, and simultaneously the smallest unit of manifestation in a star system. He understood that all forms of reality in the universe, from the densest to the most etheric, are arranged in a sublime, orderly manner.
Jose concluded that, because the process of modern civilization has stunted people’s expressive creativity, human beings, – individually and collectively – had to go through a cathartic period, a process of individuation from the profane into a spiritual/artistic rebirth.
In The Transformative Vision he wrote:
“In order for us to transcend the combative dualism that is the very essence of our condition, there must be a unitive experience of the world that can be achieved only through a major collective catharsis.”
Rudhyar’s vision about the Earth as an art-whole was a main theme in The Transformative Vision. Jose wrote: “An art-whole is determined by the quality of life-response, and not by a particular aesthetic philosophy. It is no longer of history, for it no longer supports the notion of art as entertainment or of the artist as an isolated genius, the main staples of art-historical art, down to the heyday of popular psychedelic culture with its adulation of rock superstars. Instead, an art-whole is the expressive mode of the creative seed group on its slow, lonely, and often anonymous return to a mythic space where the inner and the outer worlds mirror each other. When expression of any kind proceeds from inner realization, each act bears the imprint of truth; it matters not whether the expression is a work of ‘art.’ The path of the seed group is the only path beyond the politics of the Apocalypse.”
…The Transformative Vision introduced many new ideas, including the prophecy of the Thirteen Heavens and Nine Hells as transmitted to him by Tony Shearer. It also introduced the 2012 date as the conclusion of the Mayan 5,125 -year Great Cycle…
The Transformative Vision concludes with the vision of the closing of the whole cycle of civilization and history. It describes the period between 1987 and 2012 as the ‘interchange of tinctures,’ which occurs when the ‘oroborus (serpent) bites its tail, releasing its poison in order to heal itself.’”
